The Obligations of a Member

Membership in the SWAPO Party is a commitment to service. As defined in Article IV of the Party Constitution, every member accepts the responsibility to act with dedication in the interest of the Party and the Namibian nation. This Code of Conduct serves as the moral compass for all cadres.

Dedication to the Nation

Every member must act with unwavering dedication and commitment in the interests of the Party and the national interest of Namibia above all else.

Article IV (C)(2)(a)

Unity & Comradeship

Members must oppose factionalism, defend the Party, and act in a spirit of comradeship towards others. We must combat retrogressive tendencies of tribalism, ethnicity, nepotism, racism, and regionalism.

Article III (B)(4) & Article IV (C)(2)(h)

Exemplary Conduct

A SWAPO member must be of exemplary conduct, sincere, and honest. They must serve as a role model in their community and strive constantly to explain the aims and objectives of the Party to the masses.

Article IV (C)(2)(b) & (k)

Democratic Discipline

Members must observe and comply with decisions, resolutions, and directives of the majority, even if they held a diverging opinion during discussions. Discipline is the glue of our movement.

Article IV (C)(2)(e)

Protection of Resources

Members have a duty to respect, take care of, and protect the property of the Party. They must also strictly protect the Party's secrets and be vigilant against infiltration.

Article IV (C)(2)(c) & (l)

Constructive Criticism

We promote and exercise criticism and self-criticism without fear or favor, with the sole view of overcoming defects, errors, or deviations to strengthen the Party.

By adhering to this code, we honor the sacrifices of our forebearers and ensure the strength of the Party for future generations.
